Today on MSBC's Morning Joe former JFK speechwriter/ghostwriter Ted Sorensen was joined by historian and former LBJ speechwriter Doris Kearns Goodwin to offer their blessing of Barack Obama as the second coming of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This has to be seen to be believed.
WARNING: Video may induce nausea and may not be suitable for younger viewers due to the nearly orgasmic sighs coming from host Mika Brzezinski.
I'm not sure how much of this video is faitful to the full segment as I'm at work and can't view it but if it's anything like the segment I saw in real time this a.m. it's a real hoot.
I'm a little lost, when did they say something dramatic or imply Obama was kingly or state that he was "the second coming"? Sorenson - when asked - pointed out the similarities he sees between JFK and Obama. They both praised Clinton on her candidacy and how it gives way to more females having the gusto to go after the presidential bid. They mentioned how the most impotant thing to come out of these primaries is how more engaged Americans are in their political system. In fact, there was little coverage on Obama after just the first minute or so of the video. Was something removed?
Here's a related piece I wrote that may shed more light on these highly dubious assertions of JFK's initial leadership as president that Sorensen was gushing about in comparing Obama to JFK.
Bill -
As you have gathered by now I strongly endorse Sen. Obama. I hope he becomes the next president because I think the country needs him, badly.
That said, this "news" sequence is truly pathetic.
What is wrong with these people?
More importantly: What is wrong with the US media, left, right and center? How goddamn dumb can they get? There is, by the way, nothing "liberal" or even particularly political about this ridiculous pandering and ignorance.
I despair of understanding the US media. What has happened? How did it come to this point? Does this really reflect the mindset of the US today?
What a wreck.

Three words: Television. Cable television.
Most of the country doesn't read a decent daily newspaper anymore and what small sliver over and above that who do try to pay a passing nod to news get most of their news from cable tv or such funny but nonsensical stuff as the Daily Show or god help them, ideological websites. I mean the amount of sheer ignorance is astounding. You see it here on Newsvine each and every day and by and large the people here are a cut above the rank and file out in the country.
I can excuse Ted Sorensen because he's nearly blind and has had a stroke but Doris Kearns Goodwin? She should know better than to engage in such idle adulation. Mika Brzezinski is simply an ongoing embarrassment both to the profession and most likely her father and mother (the latter being the daughter of Eduard Benes).

Bill---2.1---I completely concur re: Mika---I heard her dad was going to be on the show this morning but I had to leave the house and darn missed it. I can't wait for Joe to get back!!! (And I'm no major Scarborough fan either so believe me that's not saying much).....
It would be nice if they could be rational about Obama, instead of trying to make you feel he like he has received a crown or something. I don't know, I think it would be wonderful if in the end Hillary receives the nomination, and becomes President. Would surprise everyone including all those pundits.
The funny thing about the segment with Sorensen and Goodwin, Diane is that inadvertently they were making McCain's point for him considering Obama's inexperience at least insofar as Jack Kennedy's initial blunders upon assuming office are concerned. Despite Kennedy's generally admirable performance in the Cuban Missile Crisis much of the groundwork for that crisis its very self was laid in the bungled Bay of Pigs Operation that Kennedy okayed and then got cold feet about. Absent that display of fecklessness it is hard to believe Kruschev would have been emboldened to try and set up nuclear missiles in Cuba in the first place.
Nor should it be forgotten that Kennedy campaigned against Nixon using the original WMD lie in insisting that the US was trailing the Soviets over a so-called "missile gap". Nixon, as a member of the Eisenhower administration, was unable to refute such nonsense without revealing state secrets.
You know what, Bill? The followers just don't care. They fall down and some faint when Obama utters his Barakitudes. He inspires them.
You didn't miss anything Lisa. Zbig came on about 8:30 a.m. and launched into his usual error-ridden condemnation of the Bush administration including the whopper that Iran has the largest natural gas reserves in the world.
Bill--thanks for link.
