VP candidate Joe Biden made a slight mistake in his introduction of Senator Chuck Graham."

See the video here. The New York Times points out that at a campaign stop this week in Missouri, Biden urged the paraplegic state official to stand up to be recognized. "Chuck, stand up, let the people see you," Mr. Biden shouted to State Senator Chuck Graham, before realizing, to his horror, that Mr. Graham uses a wheelchair.

"Oh, God love ya," Mr. Biden said. "What am I talking about?"

Just one of many sure to come. Of course, had a Republican done this the New York Times editorial board would have reared up on its tiny hind legs and shouted it from the rooftops.

That "gaffe-machine" tag is going to get a lot of use over the next few weeks.

Had that gaffe been made by McCain or Palin, the Times would have run with it and called them callous and out of touch with disabled Americans. And, Newsvine's Top Seeds would have a boatload of references to the stories.

That goes without saying, Jay. Normally, I wouldn't make much of this but given the idiocy we've seen on the front page over the last two weeks a little weekend levity at Bloviatin' Joe's expense is warranted.

It should have been Obama who asked the cripple to stand up. Then the Messiah label could have been debunked once and for all.

Thats nearly as bad as the bushies askign that iraq war vetern to change his shorts into pants cause we couldnt have him on tv showing his injuries.

This was done on purpose and is not a gaffe... shows just how much the gop cares about the peopel it put in harms way for oil.

JFC, it was a honest mistake or Freudian slip! You guys are pathetically drowning epic proportions in desperation. Maybe if you watched the whole video he went to ask the audience to stand up for Chuck when he realized Chuck was bound to a wheelchair. Also if you watched the video he was slammed McCain on cutting taxes for the wealthy& big business and doing very little for middle-class America. But i guess you guys are too busy honing on 33 second sound bite and choose to ignore the rest of his speech.

So Billy, I like to reword a phrase you called us on the left and throw back at you and the rest gang: RFRS (Rightwing Full Retard Syndrome). Syptoms include can't see the forest for it's trees, hones in on sound bites, regurgitates and parrots empty talking points, wears the badge of Hypocrisy and Double- Standard over their heart and enjoys loathing in others who they disagree with.

That's touching. It shows some aplomb (and probably some experience!) with covering and turning around what is a stupid moment into something sweet.

In this case, I think it's lovable, but I guess if you already hate someone, anything can be snickered at.

I don't hate anyone involved on either side of this campaign. But if the left here on NV sees fit to clutter up the front page with an admixture of lies, outright libels and the like then two can play at that game.

Balony. If it were McCain or Palin that made this 'gaffe' and some libs on Newsvine made a deal out of it, you would scream bloody murder. Who cares about this?

    Level,

Wow. If we accept your words as gospel -- now that a secular-based gospel, mind you, then we righties really suck.

Hey, did you hear The One was secretly in Galveston yesterday, and was handed 5 loaves, 2 fishes, and a decanter of water? Yes, He was, and He was. Unfortunately, He messed up and did His magic on only the latter 2 items.

Obama's ... uhhh ... misperformance in Galveston yesterday is the reason His handlers are keeping Him far away from pet cemetaries, the Petrified Forest in Arizona, and labs conducting sleep studies.

As an aside, it appears during the 9/11 ceremonies that Obama wore a micro-thin plastic film on His hand so He wouldn't physically touch McCain. Yes, that's the case. He's been touching only liberals for the last 6 months, intoning silently to himself, "Gain 50 points in IQ. Gain 50 points in IQ", even though His handlers keep telling Him, "Obama, only the reall, really dumb believe any of your promises. You should be saying, "Lose 50 points in IQ. Lose 50 points in IQ'".

Boy, I'm glad I'm not one of Obama's handlers. How about you?

it does appear that Biden made a mistake.. and then immediately realized "to his horror" and tried to make amends.

    what more do you want?

oh, maybe a denial and some word parsing to cover it all up..

seriously, this is the type of trivia that shows the desperation of the right.

if mccain immediately appologised.. it woudl be a non issue.
Sure perhaps soem would cackle but I bet the majority wouldnt use it liek the right trys to find anythign it can call a gaffee.. cause mccains were so huge.
see biden gaffes on a man he forgets is in a wheelchair(which is a compliment for most in wheel chairs)
mccain forgetsw who we are fighting, who iran is allied with, what borders aphghanistan.. etc etc etc.
biden who wants to be vp.. his gaffe can appear rude.. fine.
Mccain who wants to P gaffess are down right dangerous.. you cant say it is plainly rude he doesnt know who we are fighting in iraq.. it is plainly dangerous when he is the one makign the descion.
    You get it now?
we arent makign fun of mccain for fauxpahs.. we are attackign mccain cause he makes very dangerous statements.
    Get it now?
have fun wiht this garbage. it has nothign to do with the issues facign this country.. much like the gop would like us to forget their are actual issues. they will do everythign but discuss those.

    Joules -

see biden gaffes on a man he forgets is in a wheelchair(which is a compliment for most in wheel chairs)

That is, I think, very true. One of my best friends, Brook, is a quadriplegic, but that's hardly the most interesting thing about her. She's like the most amazing person, and I can probably say with some embarrassment, that she is happier than me. When talking with her, I know she finds it disappointing to be thought of in disabled terms. It isn't what's most important to her, and it isn't what she wants other people to think of when they think of her, because she feels she has a lot to offer. God, she's so great.

Anyway, I think you're right, it's definitely a gaffe, but one that certainly shows (a little embarrassingly) that he is not on a superficial plane with Senator Graham. Not that that's anything special, I'm just saying that I agree that the gaffe (while funny) doesn't reveal anything horrible about the man. Quite the reverse.

Just because you have no faith or beliefs beyond yourself it only shows your intolerance of others when you make such remarks. You're kind are the same ones who screech the loudest if someone else comments on Muslims,Islam,Race, etc , but have a Christian mention their faith and and you're like a fly at an outhouse , an irritating nuisance but of little or no real consequence.

Biden made a simple mistake. Like he's the only guy who didn't notice at first that someone had a disability. And he addressed his mistake right away. So what's the point?

I mean, if that's all you've got to prove to me that Biden wouldn't make a good VP for this country, you'll have to do better than that.

He can recital all the doctrines at 3 AM phone call in White House.
He is the most qualified VP, just look at our today's international position, the world loves us.

    Bor says, in part:

'He is the most qualified VP, just look at our today's international position, the world loves us.'

He might be the Chairman, but the President generally makes foreign policy. And in the case of George Bush, it's always been the Bush Way or the Highway.

Poor Joe! God love him. This man has always opened mouth and inserted foot. I don't know if the good Senator Obama knew this about him but I guess he knows now.

It is amazing at the amount of ridiculous remarks made by all candidates. Truly, what do these guys think? Some remarks are hilariously off the wall and others just make you cringe at hearing them.

What is also funny is those who remark on the remarks made by the remarker about the remarkee.
